| 5. | Retail Math Intro By John Keiser, 7/5/2010 I did not like math. I admit it………….and I am guessing many of you did not have math on your list of favorite subjects either. Algebra, Geometry, Algebra/Trigonometry ….and Calculus! They were classes that you had to take and homework that you had to do. It was not until I got involved in business, and the retail business, that I learned to like, actually love, math. Math soon was more than classes and homework. It was a way to calculate profitability and success/failure of product categories. I could really see what was selling rather than feel what was selling. And I often found my “seeing” did not match my “feeling”. It was a way to put some “science” with the “emotion” of the product. It is good to really know what is selling and what you are really making money on. This edition is devoted to using facts and figures in retail. How profit margins, and sales and profitability/sq foot can help your business. I hope you are enjoying The Resource. We are working very hard to provide actionable ideas that you can implement in your store. Please email me at john.keiser@onecoast.com and let me know your thoughts about The Resource.

| 10. | John's Summer Welcome By John Keiser, 5/12/2010 What was your favorite summer? Growing up in Bay Village Ohio, we really cherished our summers after those long, cold Northern Ohio winters. Summer fun was defined as at least one trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park, July 4th Parades on Lake Road-straight out of Norman Rockwell, and of course Baseball. Summer fun has been the inspiration of books like “Summer at Tiffany”, and music such as Don Henley’s Boys of Summer, and Alice Cooper’s Schools Out for Summer. Summer Fun can also be a theme for your store to drive traffic, and that is what this issue is all about. You will find some good ideas to drive traffic by having Summer Fun events, and how to merchandise to boost sales. I think you will like what you read. I hope you are enjoying The Resource. We are working very hard to provide actionable ideas that you can implement in your store. Please email me at john.keiser@onecoast.com and let me know your thoughts about The Resource. | |

| 12. | Intro to Wedding Issue By John Keiser, 4/26/2010
I remember it like it was yesterday…September 23, 1978, (and by that date, it certainly wasn’t). The skies in western PA were a beautiful blue with a few big puffy white clouds. It was a warm sunny fall day. The fall colors, although not at their peak were absolutely beautiful. It was a big day too. It was my wedding day, and it was a perfect day for Ginny Ford and John Keiser to get married. Perfect. Weddings were a big deal back then. They always have been. But like most things, they have grown in stature and are an even bigger event. There are statistics that say the average wedding costs $22,000 and that over $19,000,000,000 ( yes billions) will be spent on the wedding gifts. A high percentage of weddings will take place in the next 60 days, so this issue of The Resource focuses on Weddings and what you can do to get your very fair share of the $19 billion that will be spent on wedding gifts. It focuses on products, events and a store that has had successful experiences driving sales. I hope you are enjoying The Resource. Please email me with your thoughts or suggestions. I can be reached at john.keiser@onecoast.com. | |
