Display Challenge, Part Three

Nancy's overall inspiration was the bee-motif and honeycob-patterned dishes, and her intent with this display was "to keep it country, with an updated look, by adding some fun and functional design elements-all while using as little space as possible." Nancy used an old set of folding doors on which she added chicken wire to some of the panels to replicate the honeycomb pattern. It's a perfect example of how a juxtaposition of new and old can make product stand out. (Note: When using old doors, fencing, etc., make sure you have adequate support to keep them from falling over. Wire the pieces to the ceiling grid, attach heavy bookcases behind them, or add "foot" brackets to the bases to ensure customer and product safety.)

Nancy used several different types of hooks, shelves and risers to maximize the space available for products. These varying levels add interest to the display and allow product to be used in varied ways - and that adds value for your customers. If you can show them two or three ways to use one product, you've sold it! Do you see the whimsy in this display? It's the table linens. Nancy has used them to line baskets, rolled them up, draped them and even tied them into bow ties! This small detail adds inspiring ideas for customers, as it shows the versatility of the merchandise. Again, in a store display, you need room for mass product; In one section of the backdrop, or next to it, a tall, slim bookcase could be added to hold volume merchandise. Keep it neatly stacked to coordinate with the clean, crisp look of this display.

All of these techniques could easily be adapted for any kind of store and any kind of product. Can't you picture this as a beach cottage look? Or maybe a more rustic lakeside cabin theme? There are so many ways to take this idea and run with it - and that is what the best displays do. They offer merchandise beautifully, and show you how to maximize its value.
